Where else would one expect the hipster-funk dance party quintet of Hot Chip to play in Philadelphia besides the Starlight Ballroom? An inevitable traffic jam of road bikes inundated N. 9th Street but we breezed right inside the sold out show with a little friendly name dropping and made a beeline to the bar. The scene was every bit as one would expect and the venue as always was ablaze with pent up excitement. A few minutes and several beers later, the band casually walked on stage, picked up their instruments and got right down to it. We were there to dance, and Hot Chip brought the party.
Dripping with sweat, I was overly excited by the set list including my favorite tracks from Coming on Strong and The Warning, and obviously almost the entire track list from Made in the Dark. I am not a huge fan of the band’s latest album and was thrilled to hear the classics. The show ended as soon as it began and despite the recurring question “Are you going to the after party?!” we didn’t make it out to Barbary because of pure exhaustion.
Here’s a track if you haven’t heard:

Q: “Where else would one expect the hipster-funk dance party quintet of Hot Chip to play in Philadelphia besides the Starlight Ballroom?”
A: The Electric Factory?
This recap was so active, I feel I should have put on a sweat band before reading.
Intense.

Yeah could have also been First Unitarian Church, North Star or pretty much any other venue in the city, haha.

“the set list comprised mostly of tracks from Coming on Strong and The Warning, with only a few off Made in the Dark” really? In the two NYC shows I saw they played only “Over & Over”, “Boy from School”, “No Fit State” and “Crap Kraft Dinner”. The other 11 songs were off Made in The Dark, which is fantastic btw.
