Virtual Barbershop

I’m like a year or more late on this but it’s seriously incredible. Put on some headphones with a reasonable volume and listen to this video with your eyes closed. I know it’s almost April Fools’ but I swear it’s not a prank.

Thx Diba!

Muxtape

Muxtape is a simple, easy to use, social way to share your mixtape with friends. I found out about it a few minutes ago from Jakob Lodwick’s tumblr. Muxtape’s creator Justin Oullette writes, “My goal is nothing short of changing the way we consume, distribute, and discover music.”

You can upload 12 MP3s (which is a surprisingly fast process) then organize them by dragging and dropping. The interface for playing tracks looks like it plays nice on the iPhone and other mobile devices too. I threw together a quick Muxtape of songs I’ve been listening to recently. Check it out.

My new ringtone

P.S. I always keep my phone on vibrate, this is just for times when I feel like being annoying.

The trouble with Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs

Fortune just pushed an incredibly in-depth piece by Peter Elkind that investigates some rather controversial topics concerning Apple, Inc. CEO Steve Jobs. Concerns about Jobs’ preliminary steps to deal with his panceatic cancer, stock backdating and questions involving his future replacement are all examined with great detail and little bias. Despite his supposedly tyrannical rule over the company, it is obvious that Jobs is a brilliant inventor with his name on over 103 original Apple designs and has made a tech company (that is now worth more than Merck, McDonald’s and Goldman Sachs) into a pop culture icon.

Update: Fortune has now published an interview with Steve Jobs about keys to the company’s success. Topics include the birth of the iPhone, Apple’s connection with the customer and methods to drive employees towards success.

Philly Beer Week approaches

Philly Beer Week

The week of March 7th-16th is officially Philly Beer Week which is deemed by its organizers as “A celebration of America’s Best Beer-Drinking City”. Check out these interesting facts about Philadelphia from their site:

  • Nearly every local craft brewer reported double-digit growth last year.
  • We drink more Belgian ale than Brussels.
  • Thousands of visitors travel to Philadelphia every year just to hoist a glass.
  • It employs no fewer than 16,000 workers, produces $422 million in wages and $122 million in taxes.

Head over to the official site for a calendar of events, festivals and special dinner menus at some of Philly’s best restaurants.

Hillary Is Mom Jeans

I am actually very surprised by how many people are digging this fun little side project. We hit the home page of Tweetmeme two days ago, have been mentioned on boingboing, Ogilvy PR and techPresident and have had over 10,000 “Hillaryisms” submitted. Yesterday we launched a t-shirt contest for users to submit their creative interpretation of their favorite phrase.

Tonight, the site takes a giant leap forward as we have introduced a user rating system. Thanks to Dave Martorana who slaved over code all day long, you can now vote thumbs up or down for phrases as you browse through the site. A list of the 50 most and least popular phrases is dynamically generated as well as the 10 most recently submitted. These new features are live right now.

It is the user interaction that keeps bringing people back; it’s really fun to submit your own phrase and see it up there, knowing thousands of others will be chuckling at it also.

Lunar eclipse

Philly Lunar Eclipse

Phillybits has some really cool pictures of the lunar eclipse taken from the city last night. The skies were surprisingly clear outside my apartment and I caught a pretty good glimpse. It’s times like these that I really wish I had a telescope.

Hillary is Mom Jeans

Hillary Is Your Mom Jeans

Jeff suggested a spoof on the already popular Barack Obama Is Your New Bicycle so we decided to write up a few phrases that shed Hillary in a not so positive light. I wrote the site real quick and Hillary is Mom Jeans was born.

The difference is that ours let’s you submit a phrase of your own.

Jackson Pollock by Miltos Manetas

Above is my attempt at a Jackson Pollock style painting using jacksonpollock.org. The site is an art project by London-based Miltos Manetas. Simply move your cursor around the white “canvas” and click to change the color of the paint. Different flicks of the wrist will yield varying strokes. Based on how horrific the piece I did looks I am now leaning towards the idea that Pollock wasn’t just some nut who was throwing paint around.
